Iowa first to offer St. Louis athlete
As a junior, Derrick Mitchell Jr. did a little bit of everything for Vashon High School with 808 yards passing, 518 yards rushing, and 277 yards receiving, scoring 15 touchdowns in all. The 6-foot-0, 185-pound Mitchell also had 39 tackles and an interception on defense and is receiving college interest on both sides of the ball.
"He's able to do a lot of things," said Vashon coach Reginald Ferguson. "Coaches like his size and strength and ability to catch the ball. As a receiver or defensive back, he can be a big playmaker."
A number of schools are showing early interest in Mitchell and last week he received his first scholarship offer, which came from the Iowa Hawkeyes.
