Interest in Douglas picking up
Arlington (Texas) Lamar running back Ja'Terian Douglas was one of the leading rushers in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex last season. However, until recently, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound Douglas was seemingly one of the best-kept secrets in the state. Only two programs, Texas Tech and Baylor, had offered him early on. There were questions about his size due to the fact that He participates in track.
That has all changed in recent weeks. College coaches visited Lamar in January and subsequently became convinced that his production outweighed any concerns that they might have had over his size. Douglas averaged over 25 carries per game in the Viking's offense last year proving that he was quite durable. He has turned out to be something of a surprise as a short yardage runner as his 28 touchdowns would attest. Still, Douglas admits that colleges do not look at him the way they might at someone who was bigger.
