How many athletes have transferred to schools in West Des Moines?
A lot. Valley wide receiver Anthony Holmes and Dowling athlete Rico Gafford lead the charge but both the Maroons and Tigers picked up a lot of players that many didn't expect to suit up for the team after the 2012 season ended. Look for a lot of new names this year.
What happens with Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial?
The defending State champs from Ankeny were hammered by graduation, losing their coach, and seeing many of their top players head over to the new school at Centennial. Unless their younger athletes are ready to step in early, it could be a rough year for the Hawks. Look for Ankeny Centennial to be among the best teams in their district with Marshall Clark leading the charge. And no offense to Ankeny but the fact that some outlets have them rated #1 in the preseason means that they these sites have done zero research.
Can Pleasant Valley dominate the MAC again?
Yes. The Spartans bring back two potential All Staters in Landon Carney and Brady Letney. The key for them will be to replace a loaded group defensively that has moved on due to graduation.
Who is the most sought after senior left on the board?
A lot of the best athletes have already made college decisions and seem secure in them. While Urbandale wide receiver Allen Lazard is not 100% to Iowa State, the best guess is that he ends up in Ames. That means the honor goes to Waukee lineman Ross Reynolds. This senior holds a number of scholarships and will only see that list grow.
Will Xavier be able to replace all of the talent that they lost due to graduation?
It may take a little time, especially at quarterback, but Xavier will remain among the elite in Class 4A. A number of dominant linemen will help lead the charge as well as some special defenders. The offensive numbers won't be as high powered as they were a season ago but the Saints will be a tough out.
