Smith lands a Buckeye offer

Ohio State made a huge splash in the state of Indiana in the 2010 class when the Buckeyes landed highly touted running back Rod Smith out of Fort Wayne Harding. Now, Smith's younger brother Jaylon Smith, has become the latest prospect to receive a verbal offer from the Buckeyes. The 6-foot-3, 202-pound class of 2013 linebacker from Fort Wayne (Ind.) Bishop Luers has dominated the camp circuit over the last few weeks and is tracking as one of the top prospects in the Midwest for the class.

"I was excited and I was thankful at the same time," said Smith of the verbal offer from Ohio State.

After turning in a big time performance at the Ohio State NIKE Camp just a few weeks ago, Smith was once again dominant at the Sound Mind, Sound Body camp up in Michigan this week.

"My camp performances have been pretty good," he said. "I'm just trying to get better day by day. I'm around the right people that are supporting me and helping me."

While Ohio State is the latest school to throw it's hat into the ring, Smith has already collected a handful of offers with more almost certainly on the way.

"I have three other offers besides Ohio State," he said. "Purdue, Mississippi State, and Indiana have all offered me, too."

In addition to the four offers, some other big time programs are also hot on Smith's trail and could be following suit pretty soon.

"I was just recently at Michigan and Michigan State," he explained. "I'm also hearing from Cincinnati a little bit."

With older brother ready to make his mark at Ohio State this fall, Smith is certainly quite familiar already with the Ohio State program. With that being said, it's still very early in the process for Smith and he isn't about to limit himself in terms of gathering information on all of the interested schools.

"He's just been telling me how everything goes (at Ohio State) and that it's going pretty good," Smith said. "I'm just keeping my options open now. I don't really have a favorite school or anything right now. I'm just trying to focus on getting better."

Smith should be a regular on Ohio State's campus over the next six months.

"I'll be there in the fall (for games)," he said. "I was planning on maybe going up there on Thursday for a camp but I'm not sure yet because I'll be at Notre Dame like the following day. I'm still considering that. I'll be at Notre Dame on June 25th for a 7-on-7."
