Ronan has South Winn on his mind
FREE! Waukon athlete Jacob Ronan proved to be a game changer last fall on the football field for one of the top Class 2A programs in the state. This senior hopes the success can continue in 2014 as they open the year against South Winneshiek.
"They return a lot for the upcoming season so it should be a really good game. They have a very good athlete in Jordan Rommes and I'm sure I'll be matched up with him all game. It'll be a good matchup."
Ronan is ready to thrive in a bigger role offensively this time around.
"I'll be playing wing back and slot received this year for offense. I am excited to be able to help the team."
One camp was all that Ronan had time for throughout the summer months.
"I went to UNI camp and that was a great experience for me. I learned a lot there. That was the only camp I was able to do but I thought it went very well."
Ronan heard later on that he performed at a high level.
"I was able to talk to Mark Farley a few weeks later at a baseball game where his nephew was playing. He said that I did very well and was impressed by my athletic abilities. I was relieved about that."
Recruiting has come in for Ronan from a variety of schools.
"I'm pretty scattered right now. There are a lot of Division III schools like Coe and Central. Drake is another one that sends a lot of emails to see how I'm doing."\
Ronan had a chance to see two schools up close during the summer.
"I attended the Drake prospect day and also the Coe prospect day. Those are the only two I've visited so far."
Visits are something that Ronan hopes to get on this fall.
"I haven't tried getting to many but I am hoping to see UNI another time. Hopefully I can get to some other Division I schools like Iowa and Iowa State but I'm not sure if I'll have time for those."
