Johnston heads into the 2014 season hoping to improve off of the five games that
they won a year ago and really showcase what they can do on the gridiron.
Jordan Weddington has moved out of state and his presence will be missed after
rushing for over 1,000 yards. An elite wide receiver in Andrew Heuss will
make a life easier for a new quarterback stepping in. Mike Mahanna's
graduation will leave that spot open heading into 2014. The defense will
be anchored by a potential Division I defensive end Hezekiah Applegate.
This 6-foot-3, 255 pound standout racked up nineteen tackles for loss and made
some huge plays for his team over the year. Jack Bergstrom , Karl
Rasmussen, and Nolan Wengert are three defenders that will make a bigger impact
as well.

Team Strengths
We return 15 starters from last fall and will have key skill and most upfront
starters with 4 starters back on O-line and 3 back on D-line and 3 starters back
in secondary. Also return kicker and punter Tommy Zinselmeier.
Questions Marks
Will have new Qb on offense in Reid Sinnett and also need to replace the
departure of Division 1 athlete in Jordan Weddington at RB who rushed for over
1,000 yards in both his sophomore and junior seasons. On defense need to fill
departure of both starting inside backers Brandon Sexton who was 3 year starter
and an All Stater in class 4A along with Zach Brandt who will play college ball
at Morningside.
Final Remarks
I would say we are very anxious to get back on the field this Fall 2014 as the
kids have worked extremely hard to this point heading into summer workouts. We
return a lot of experience that competed 10 games last year and hoping that
experience plus the addition of a very good group of sophomores who bring not
only talent but give us some depth in areas that will make us a much better
team. We are looking forward to the challenge of competing against some very
good football teams this fall!
