Spirit Lake athlete Paul Brown has shown a knack for excelling in
both baseball and football at the prep level. But when it comes to college
athletics, which sport is he leaning towards?
"Football has always been my love but I haven't really been talked to for
baseball yet. If something does come up, I would consider baseball."
Brown took some time this summer to showcase his football skills in front of
colleges.
"I went to Iowa and USD. At Iowa, I was one of like twenty five linebackers
so I didn't really get to do a lot of reps. At USD, I went for quarterback and I
threw really well. I thought that went well."
Both schools let Brown know how he did overall.
"USD has been talking to four players from Spirit Lake. They said we are all
close to scholarships and that they want to see how the season goes. Iowa liked
me to walk on there."
Brown is seriously considering walking on in Iowa City.
"Since I don't really have a scholarship from anywhere else, that is where I
want to go. It has been my dream to play football at Iowa."
After baseball and college camps, Brown recently focused on getting ready for
the high school football season with a recent team bonding experience.
"It was basically a retreat. We just could get away and focus on football. It
helps a lot because we get all football for three days."
Brown and his teammates open with Okoboji.
"We are not sure how they'll be and how they'll play since they didn't have a
varsity team last season. We'll have to worry about ourselves in that one."
