How
has practice been going for your team?
Practice has been going really well.
This group has for the most part been together for about three years, so we are
able to continue to build on previous seasons instead of starting completely
new. The fact that all of these boys have so much familiarity with each other is
a huge bonus.
What are the strengths of this group?
This group can
really shoot the ball. This is the best overall shooting team I have had in my 6
seasons with the Magic. 1-4 positions are all pretty interchangable and feed off
each other well. Another strength would be as I mentioned before our flexibility
at most positions.
What are your concerns?
We don't have a ton of
depth at the 5 spot. If we get into some foul trouble that could be an issue
time to time, but the kids we have in those spots are smart kids who work really
hard. Hopefully those issues won't be a factor.
How do you feel will
spent the most time in the starting lineup?
At this point we are still
working guys through those spots. I honestly feel that about any given day I
could start a different 5 and still have the same success. While it's nice to
have a set 5, I see it as a real positive that I can rotate through many guys
and still be very successful.
Can you talk a little about your guys:
Devin & Deshaun Quinn- Twin posts from Marion high school. Both really big
bodies that love to mix it up and work hard. Have continually improved over the
past two seasons, they will be huge on the boards for us all season.
Craig
Engle- point/shooting guard from Marion high school. Probably our
most
consistent shooter. Great ball handler, has really improved as a defensive
player as well. Has done a great job at Marion, will do great things at the next
level.
Terrence Williams- small forward from Marion. Terrence does all the
little things right. He is our best team defender, type of player that everyone
wants on their team.
Blake Galvin- shooting guard from Cedar Rapids
Jefferson. Has made huge improvements to his offensive game, as well as a leader
on the floor. Look forward to seeing what his summer will bring.
Logan
Winterhof- point/shooting guard from Center Point-Urbana. Little bit undersized,
but makes up for his lack of size in his willingness to put in extra time in the
gym. Great on ball defender.
Connor Hoelzen- small forward from Danville. Had
a great year at Danville, looking for much of the same this summer. Has great
size and strength and can really shoot it. Will do great things for our group.
Strad Houtakker- shooting guard from Center Point-Urbana. Strad is a great pure
shooter, and sees the floor extremely well. Sees the next play happen and
anticipates that well. Another great new addition to this group.
Ross
Anderson- small forward from Hudson. Ross is a big tall kid with guard-like
abilities. Can really shoot it, handle it, and stretch the floor. He will pose
match up problems throughout the summer.
Blake Hellweg- point/shooting guard
from Holy Trinity Catholic. Underrated ball handler and shooter. One of my most
consistent kids the last two seasons. Doesn't jump off a box score, but is
extremely reliable.
Tucker Janecek- small forward from WACO high school. I
feel safe in saying no one works harder on the floor than Tucker does. He is the
definition of a "team guy" and I love what he brings to our team.
