Would a UNC offer change things for Paige
Linn-Mar point guard
Marcus Paige had an opportunity to have North
Carolina head basketball coach Roy Williams come through his high school earlier
this week. But would a scholarship from the Tar Heels make him a lock to
follow the footsteps of Harrison Barnes?
"It would definitely make a strong case in my recruitment because I've been a
big fan for a while now. But it doesn't guarantee anything. I still will take my
visits and make sure that it is the right fit if I were to pick them."
Paige doesn't seem to be in any hurry to make a decision at this point in the
process.
"I'm still thinking about waiting until next summer sometime. I feel like the
time that (Cedar Rapids Jefferson forward Jarrod) Uthoff made his decision would
be good. I want to get to know all the staffs and go on visits. I don't want to
drag it into the season."
Outside of the offers and North Carolina, Paige mentioned two programs that
have picked up interest as of late.
"It has been Stanford and UCLA recently. I talked to both of their
coaching staffs"
Paige feels that the recruiting process has had its up and downs
thus far.
"There are times where it does get hectic and you want a break from
all of it. But it is a pretty fun time."
One thing that did make Paige's day was receiving a scholarship
from the coaches at Kansas.
"I was pretty excited. It is a school with great tradition. They
have had a lot of success. It is good to have another option like that. I was
pretty excited."
Paige continued making a name for himself this summer while playing
for Martin Bros. on the AAU circuit.
"It went pretty well. I think we went 58-7 and played 33 games in
July. We played a lot of basketball and were pretty successful."
Playing with so many athletes he is familiar with helps Paige enjoy
the grind of the summer.
"It is a great group to play with. We have been playing together
for a while there and have played a lot of games. It is always fun when you are
winning. It is a great group and everyone knows each other well on the team."
Paige is now using his time to get ready for the upcoming season.
"I took a little break and after a couple of weeks I started
lifting again. I've been working out with the team to get ready for the high
school season."
